A drunken and angry man drove his SUV into another man standing at a Brooklyn Center bus stop, then came back to run over his victim on the ground, according to charges filed Thursday.
Lawrence D.H. Peterson, 32, of Minneapolis, was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault stemming from the incident late Tuesday afternoon near 65th and Humboldt Avenues. Peterson remains jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail.
The victim, Frederick L. Sanders, 36, of Minneapolis, remained hospitalized in fair condition at North Memorial Medical Center with a shattered pelvis and internal bleeding, police noted in the criminal complaint.
Peterson is the current boyfriend of the woman who gave birth to Sanders' son, the charges read.
According to the complaint:
Sanders' son told police that he saw Peterson and his father arguing and pushing each other in an apartment. Peterson, who was intoxicated, vowed to kill Sanders and left.
Peterson admitted to running over Sanders, explaining to police that Sanders had called him a name and made a threatening gesture while at the bus stop.
A woman at a gas station nearby said she saw Peterson's SUV jump the curb, hitting Sanders and a bus bench. She said the SUV "turned around and hit the victim again as he was lying on the ground," the complaint read.
