The Ten Commandments

Wednesday: "The Ten Commandments" (⋆⋆⋆⋆, rated G) is the greatest dramatic fantasy ever created in the golden age of 1950s Hollywood. From Elmer Bernstein's thrilling score, to the spectacle and pageantry of Cecil B. DeMille's direction, to the legendary stars (Charlton Heston as the iconic Moses! Yul Brynner as evil Ramses! Vincent Price as — oh, who cares!!!), it's nearing its 60th birthday as America's most beloved religious epic. While ABC has announced that it will air the 1956 classic on Easter Sunday, it's the sort of magical event that works best shared with a sizable crowd on a really big screen. Luckily, next week you can. (7 p.m. Wed., April 1, Heights Theater, 3951 Central Av. NE., Columbia Heights. $8. dreamersempire.com. )
