A motorcyclist died Friday after a crash with a car on Interstate 35 near Wyoming, Minn., the State Patrol said.

The crash closed southbound I-35 for several hours in the afternoon. At one point, traffic was backed up for 9 miles.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. Friday as traffic in the left lane was slowing for construction. The State Patrol said the motorcycle hit the side of a car that had three people inside. Alcohol was not involved in the crash, the patrol said.

The motorcyclist, Bruce John Pariseau, 56, of North Branch, later died at a hospital, the patrol said. He was not wearing a helmet, the patrol said. The three people in the car, all from Duluth, were not injured.
