Motion City Soundtrack is ranked No. 7 on Spin magazine's list of "The 25 Best Fall Tours," just six under the top draw Gorillaz. Heralded as "pop-punk and emo elder statesmen," the Twin Cities-reared quintet will be on the road with Say Anything from Oct. 14-Nov. 21, with a local date at First Ave set for Oct. 28. While waiting for the tour to begin, frontman Justin Pierre entered himself in Jimmy Fallon's "Play Guitar with Pavement" contest. His version of Pavement's "We Dance" -- which the band played just before its encore at Roy Wilkins Auditorium on Sunday -- attracted the attention of Fallon himself, who was impressed that a "bonafide rock star" had entered the competition. Pierre undoubtedly knows enough about Pavement to know they'd never give the top prize to him (someone whose musical preparation might outshine theirs), but it's a fun try nonetheless.
