Mortgate interest rates are still near historic lows, but they've risen steadily over the past several weeks. A friend who just signed a purchase agreement to buy a house wondered whether she should lock a rate now at just below 5 percent for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, or wait to see if rates would fall.

For a little insight into what the experts are saying, I sent her the following link: www.hshmarkettrends.com/blog. Be sure to follow the link from that blog post to a two-month rate outlook. Also be sure to check out a blog post by local mortgage broker, Alex Stenback at http://www.behindthemortgage.com. The post is from late November, but much of his analysis is still pertinent.
