TORONTO -- I'll have updates on Justin Morneau (headache) and Delmon Young (strained left wrist) and post the lineups ASAP.
Big start for Scott Baker tonight. Feel like I say that all the time, but a rubber game here, coming off a tough loss last night -- the Twins need Baker to get on his usual late-season roll.
Meanwhile, since Morneau has been urging voters to send fellow Canadian Joey Votto to the All-Star Game, here's a link you don't want to miss (hat tip to former Stribber Jeff Shelman).
Update: Morneau is not in the lineup. Effects of getting kneed in the head last night must be persisting. Denard Span is also getting a breather, though Manager Ron Gardenhire had hinted at that earlier in the week.
Update: Morneau is day-to-day, Gardenhire said. He was checked by doctors Wednesday night, and Gardenhire said Morneau felt woozy today. There's a chance he'll feel well enough to pinch hit or something late in the game. Asked if Morneau had a concussion, Gardenhire said he wasn't sure exactly what to call it but said it might be considered a mild concussion.
Morneau has a history with concussions, going back to his days as a goalie, and he went on the DL after getting hit in the head with a pitch in 2005. This one doesn't sound nearly that serious. Morneau declined comment through a team spokesman, but said he'd be available to talk after the game.
Young came in today and took some swings in the batting cage and said he was good to go. He joked that the wrist might not be feeling as well on Friday, when the Twins face Tigers ace Justin Verlander.
Standard day off for Span, who has some slight ankle soreness but could have played, Gardenhire said. Keep in mind, lefties are hitting .160 against Toronto starter Brett Cecil, compared to .264 for righties.
