Justin Morneau could be heading to the disabled list.
Morneau had a cortisone shot for his left wrist Sunday and tried taking some swings in the batting cage this afternoon. It didn't go well. Morneau went to see the hand specialist again, and is waiting to hear what the team decides about a possible DL move.
He hasn't been in the lineup since Thursday.
"If it's the right thing to do, it's the right thing to do," Morneau said. "No matter what, I want to play. If it comes to the point where I'm not doing myself any good, or the team any good, going out there with one hand. ... Pain's one thing, but being in pain and being -- I wouldn't say useless, but not very good -- I don't think I"m doing myself or the team any good."
* It's raining at Target Field. I've been told that if there's a rainout (a strong possibility) tonight's game would be rescheduled for August or September when the White Sox return.
*As La Velle reported earlier, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Glen Perkins are expected to be on the same flight Wednesday from Toledo, Ohio to MSP.
Gardenhire said it will depend how they fare tonight for Class AAA Rochester. Nishioka is in the lineup at second base -- though Gardenhire said he still plans to play him at shortstop when he returns -- and Perkins is scheduled to pitch two innings.
* Joe Mauer had five at-bats in a simulated game in Fort Myers, Fla. He is scheduled to get some at-bats against Joe Nathan on Wednesday and then be re-evaluated. Gardenhire all but ruled out a Thursday return from the DL for Mauer, so it sounds like Friday at the earliest.
