Chaska, Chanhassen and Forest Lake became the newest Yellow Ribbon communities last week at a ceremony held in Richfield.
The honor recognizes the combined efforts of community leaders, resource providers and volunteers to meet the needs of military service members and their families. Communities need to complete a 16-step process to receive the designation, said Annette Kuyper, director of military outreach for the Minnesota National Guard.
More than 100 counties, cities and companies in the state have completed the Yellow Ribbon requirements individually or as a group since December 2008.
Kuyper said the outward showing of support and networking eases the burden for military families, helps with the transition from soldier to citizen and builds a stronger and more compassionate community.
Earlier recipients this year included St. Paul, Blaine, West St. Paul, Faribault, suburban Ramsey County and Hennepin Technical College.
