Parts of China and North Korea will again become the target of a tropicalsystem in the upcoming days. The danger this time is at the hands of TropicalStorm Malou.Malou will continue on that heading northward through Monday morning, EDT,moving away from Japan's Ryukyu Islands and will move into the Yellow Sea.
During this time, Malou will strengthen into a stronger tropical storm. It isalso possible that Malou will reach minimal typhoon status.
The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center is concerned that Malou will curvenortheastward towards North Korea, where landfall may occur by the middle ofnext week.
Strong winds high in the atmosphere, also known as wind shear, should increaseacross Malou just prior to landfall. That should keep Malou from being apowerful typhoon when it moves inland and could even lead to someweakening.
The negative aspect of the wind shear is that it should act to push Malou'storrential rain onshore well ahead of the storm's actual landfall. The raincould spread over northeastern China and North Korea as early as Tuesday.
Residents of this flood-weary region should prepare for more widespreadflooding problems to ensue.
It should be noted that anyone living or visiting areas along the Yellow Seashould closely monitor the progress of Malou. It cannot be totally ruled outthat the storm shifts its track at some point into next week.
This region has been hit hard in recent weeks by heavy rain, aided mostrecently by a tropical depression and Typhoon Kompasu. The additional rainfallfrom Malou will only worsen the situation across the Korean Peninsula andnortheastern China.
