A wavy-looking front continues to stretch across the Midwest and Northeast. With every wiggle and wag of the front, there is an outbreak of thunderstorms, some of which are becoming quite violent.

Into the overnight hours, boisterous thunderstorms some with damaging winds andlarge hail can be expected from Missouri and Illinois to Pennsylvania. Saturdaythe same general area will be under the gun though the region from easternVirginia to New England may also be subjected to some pretty heftythunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorms are those that produce wind gusts over 55 miles per hour, hail 1 inch in diameter or larger, frequent lightning and blinding downpours.

They can also spawn tornadoes though only a very small percentage do so.
