More Southern Downpours

May 24, 2009 at 7:25PM

Tropical inflow from the Gulf of Mexico will bathe the South right throughthe early week. On Memorial Day Monday, the weather outcome will be one ofscattered showers and thunderstorms with local torrential rainfall. This willhold true from the southern Atlantic Seaboard in the East to the southernPlains in the West.Although scattered and hit-or-miss will tend to be apt descriptors for thecoverage of the showers and thunderstorms, there will once again be a focus formore widely-spread rain over the south central portion of the country.

Low pressure will persist over Arkansas on Monday. This low will lead tosome longer-lasting downpours that could unleash rain amounts of 2 to perhaps 4inches within several hours. Thus, there will still be potential for urban andsmall stream flooding in and about the state of Arkansas.
