More small cars from VW, Audi

Volkswagen unveils its new sub-Golf-size Polo small car this month. As Motor Trend reports, VW is considering the car for the U.S. market and it would compete with the Ford Fiesta, which comes to the States in 2010. The car will look and feel like a slightly smaller VW Golf. Expect VW's new wide grille, with teardrop headlamps. The hatchback will offer three or five doors, with bodywork more expressively surfaced than the traditionally conservative Golf.

Plans also continue from Audi for its 2010 Audi A1, an upcoming three- and five-door subcompact. The A1 will have a less-glassy tailgate and more conventional framed doors than an earlier concept model. Audi also plans an eventual hybrid version of the A1. Additionally, Audi also is planning a small 2011 SUV, called the Q3.
