More redistricting maps coming soon

Sen. Geoff Michel, chair of the Senate redistricting committee, says the Senate will release congressional maps this week.

The Minnesota Senate this week will release its plan for congressional districts for the next decade soon.

"I would actually anticipate a congressional map this week," said Sen. Geoff Michel, R-Edina. Michel, the chair of the Senate redistricting committee and the Senate Deputy Majority Leader, also said the Senate would probably release its legislative redistricting plan this week.

He said the legislative plan would look very similar to the legislative plan the House released Monday night. On Tuesday night, the House redistricting committee will meet to discuss the plan. The House has yet to release their plans for the new congressional districts.

Last week, Dayton told lawmakers that "little time remains for adopting principles and developing a bipartisan plan this year."

The drive for bipartisan plans were dealt a blow this week, when DFL Sen. Ann Rest removed her name from the redistricting principles Michel sponsored. The principles are now sponsored by Michel alone.
