More Rain Possible Next Week for Flooded Mid-Atlantic

October 1, 2010 at 7:25PM

The mid-Atlantic is in need of dry weather following the recent deluge byTropical Rainstorm Nicole. However, the return of more rain is likely to comeearly next week. The development of a storm system along the East Coast will be the culpritbehind the upcoming wet weather.

Showers should return to the coast of the Carolinas and mid-Atlantic Saturdaynight into Sunday. Showers will also dampen the central Appalachians at thistime. Monday is when some rain is likely to fall from New York City andWilmington, N.C., back to the upper Ohio Valley.

Monday's rain will be best described as chilly. The combination of the rain, clouds and cold air funneling down from the north will keep most temperaturesin the 50s. The corridor from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., to Raleigh,N.C., should just barely crack the 60-degree mark.

Adding to the dreariness of the day will be a stiff onshore wind set to whipthe mid-Atlantic coastline.

The slow-moving storm system could continue to produce some rain over themid-Atlantic Tuesday and even into Wednesday. The rain may also expandnorthward to southern New England, including Boston, during this time.

New flooding problems will become an issue over the mid-Atlantic if the slowpace of the system allows rain to keep streaming over the same locations for aprolonged period of time.
