Major flooding along the Ohio and lower Mississippi rivers this month has beentriggered by a series of slow-moving, drenching rains. The same storm chain hasbeen responsible for the multiple tornado outbreaks this April. On top of many double-digit rainfall amounts for the month of April, thestart of May brings more soaking showers and thunderstorms. It's going to rainagain right along the corridor where it can do the most harm.

The next rain event will begin late Saturday night over Arkansas andsoutheast Oklahoma, then expand northeast on Sunday. Rainfall projectionsindicate areas that have been flooded already might be in for another severalinches of rain, with some areas approaching half of a foot.

The unsettled pattern will continue into early next week with more soakingrain and embedded gusty thunderstorms.
