More on the Waters, Gilmour rumors

No surprise guests in Omaha last night, but others are corroborating the local sightings of the two Pink Floyd members.

There were no other members of Pink Floyd in Omaha last night besides Roger Waters, putting the kabash on rumors -- which were already, um, kabashing yesterday afternoon -- that David Gilmour might show up at the concert as a clever answer to a coy blurb in Rolling Stone. A Floyd publicist at Sony Music also put the brakes on the rumor mill by denying the sighting of Gilmour and Waters dining together at Bar La Grassa in Minneapolis on Monday. So that's that, right? At this point, the only people trying to keep the rumor alive, it seems, are ticket scalpers hoping to cash in on Waters' show tonight at Xcel Energy Center.

This morning, however, I got a call from a very sane and straight-talking Floyd fan from New Jersey named Ken Griebell who corroborated the sighting of Gilmour and Waters together at Bar La Grassa, and he claims he even briefly talked with Gilmour. The guy was in town on business and had seen "The Wall" show at Madison Square Garden a couple weeks earlier. "Yeah right," was my response, but Griebell went on to give a detailed description of what went down at La Grassa. He also gave me detailed personal information about where he works, why he was in town, etc., all of which checked out. He said he approached Waters' entourage outside La Grassa to say how much he liked the show. Waters only gave him a gruff reply. However, Griebell said the guy who "looked and spoke just like Gilmour, with the accent" asked him, "What did you think of these guys?" (meaning the whole band). When he answered in the positive, the Gilmour-ian dude quipped back, "Then you got no taste." Yep, sounds like the right kind of humor.

Speaking of funny guys, KQRS's morning show crew also took a call this morning from a guy who said he works at "a St. Paul hotel" (aka The St. Paul Hotel), and he was emphatic about seeing Gilmour with Waters there.

Again, this all might just be a case of people mistaking some other 60-something guy in Waters' entourage for the average-looking Gilmour -- you know, folks wishing he was here (rim shot!). Or worse, scalpers might be fanning the rumors. I guess we'll know for sure in a few hours.
