Record-setter

On his way to becoming the fourth-oldest first-time major champion, Henrik Stenson set or tied a number of British Open and majors records, including:

Best 72-hole score in a major: His 264 total was one better than David Toms' performance in the 2001 PGA Championship. Greg Norman won the 1993 British Open with a 267.

Lowest under par in a major: His 20-under tied Jason Day's mark at the 2015 PGA Championship. Tiger Woods won the 2000 British Open at 19 under par.

Best closing round in a major: Stenson's 8-under 63 matched Johnny Miller's showing at the 1973 U.S. Open.

Oh, and the only first-time majors champions older than the 40-year-old Stenson? Jerry Barber won the 1961 PGA Championship at age 45 and Roberto De Vincenzo won the 1967 British Open at 44.
