The Brownsville Wildlife Overlook is on Hwy. 26 about 3 miles south of Brownsville, Minn., in the southeastern corner of the state. From the Twin Cities, take Hwy. 52 south to Interstate 90, east to La Crescent, Minn., then follow Hwy. 16 south to Hwy. 26 past Brownsville. It's about a 160-mile drive.

On the other side of the river, the Shady Maple Wildlife Overlook is on Hwy. 35 about 3 miles south of La Crosse, Wis.

Tundra swan bus tour

Watch tundra swans migrate along the Upper Mississippi River Nov. 11 during the annual Swan Watch bus tour. Participants can also enjoy fall colors on the guided tour, which highlights the tundra swans. The bus leaves from the Winona Visitors Center, 924 Huff St., at 9 a.m. and returns to the center around 3 p.m. $25 includes a box lunch.
