In the competitive Eighth District congressional race, freshman Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack raised $206,000 in the third quarter and has $383,000 cash on hand, according to his Federal Election Report filed Friday.

That figure puts Cravaack slightly behind DFLer Tarryl Clark, who raised $228,000 from July through September, according to her campaign. Clark is one of four DFLers who hope to take on the freshman Republican in 2012.

While she topped Cravaack this quarter, Clark still has less money in the bank than Cravaack with $235,000 cash on hand. Clark, who lost to Rep. Michele Bachmann in 2010, has yet to file her full report with the FEC, which is due Saturday.

One of Clark's DFL primary challengers, former Sixth District Rep. Rick Nolan, reported raising $66,000 in the third quarter. Nolan has $32,000 in the bank.

Though Nolan raised less than Clark and Cravaack, he has some high-profile donors backing his campaign. Former Vice President and 2000 Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore gave Nolan $1,000. Former Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd and his wife Jackie Clegg Dodd gave $2,500 each.

Nolan served with both Gore and Dodd in the U.S. House back in the 1970s.

Duluth City Council member Jeff Anderson and former staffer to Sen. Al Franken Daniel Fanning have not reported fundraising totals to the FEC yet.
