A moped driver died Friday of injuries he suffered in a crash Thursday night in northeast Minneapolis.

The man, who was traveling north on Central Avenue NE., was thrown from the moped when it hit the rear passenger door of a southbound sport-utility vehicle, according to Minneapolis police. He had been crossing Lowry Avenue NE. with a green light when the SUV turned left in front of him to go east on Lowry.

The crash happened at 10:22 p.m., police said.

The SUV driver stopped immediately and cooperated with officers, police said. Officers provided care to the victim before paramedics arrived and took him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Friday.

The man's name will be released by the Hennepin County medical examiner's office, which is conducting an autopsy.
