Money seems to boost wins

It was one game, two schools and a big difference in money. When Minnetonka played baseball against Bloomington Kennedy, which has won two state baseball titles and produced former Twins great Kent Hrbek, Minnetonka had an edge before taking the field.

The Minnetonka Diamond Club, the baseball booster club, raised $375,387 in 2010, while a baseball booster club for Bloomington Kennedy raises about $50,000 annually. The Diamond Club has four Triple Crown Donors who have given at least $100,000. No one can say how the money affected the final score of last year's game – Minnetonka led 7-0 after two innings and won the game handily, 10-3; Bloomington Kennedy finished 4-17.

This year, Minnetonka played Bloomington Jefferson – a state baseball title runner-up in 2008 – and again won handily, 9-3. Heading into the last week of this year's regular season, Minnetonka was 15-4.
