The Mississippi Dunes golf course, whose owner got into legal trouble for sexual harassment, is up for sale and being pitched for residential redevelopment.

The 185-acre tract along the Mississippi River in Cottage Grove went up for sale at $10 million about two weeks ago, listing agent Dave Johnson of Edina Realty said Thursday.

The par-72 public course has brought its season to an earlier-than-usual conclusion, Johnson said.

The listing calls the property, with 1,900 feet of waterfront, a "prime residential development site" that offers "scenic views of the Mississippi River and close proximity to MSP airport and both downtowns."

Johnson said he's had "several inquiries. Those potential buyers are doing [or] will need to do their due diligence to determine the best use."

Any potential buyer can maintain the land as the golf course, which includes Doc's Landing, a full-service restaurant, a banquet venue and a large maintenance facility.

Whether switched over for homes or continued for golf, "It could go either way," Johnson said. "It could be a great high-end private course or it could be developed for a high-end residential community."

In August, a Washington County judge ruled in favor of four former golf course employees who claimed in a lawsuit that owner Dr. William Doebler groped female employees and fired them for complaining. The incidents occurred in 2013 and 2014 in the clubhouse and at his home, the suit said.

Doebler, who turned 74 on Thursday, was ordered to pay the women a total of $130,000. The course was fined as a business another $20,000.
