A Minnetonka Beach man was charged Monday with being drunk when he ran over his wife last week, fatally injuring her.
David Christopher Meder, 57, was charged with a single count of criminal vehicular homicide or operating a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more in the death of Diane Rawlings Meder, 57, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
Bail of $150,000 was requested. Meder is expected to make his first appearance court Tuesday.
According to the criminal complaint, Meder told police he and his wife were returning to their home in Minnetonka Beach, a small town on a peninsula in Lake Minnetonka, about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when he stopped the car to get the mail. He said he was unsure when his wife got out of the car, but it might have been while he was looking at the mail. He turned left into their driveway and heard her yell that he was running over her, he told police.
Diane Meder was still alive when medics arrived, and told them that it was an accident.
She died just before 10 p.m. at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale of what the medical examiner identified as multiple blunt-force injuries.
According to the complaint, Meder smelled of alcohol, and his blood alcohol content was measured at .155.
Diane Meder — who went by Diane Rawlings professionally — founded her own company, Rawlings Consulting, in 2009, after years of work in marketing and management. She was a licensed psychotherapist and had worked as a part-time therapist at Franklin Family Services in St. Louis Park.
