Large swaths of downtown Lafayette, Ind. lost power early Wednesday morning -- the Lafayette Journal and Courier reports -- and the Gophers' hotel for the night was without electricity and heat overnight a receptionist at the hotel confirmed.

The downtown Holiday Inn regained power around 8 this morning, Kayla Meckl, a front desk agent said. The blackout started around 1 a.m. after a drunk driver crashed into a utility pole.

"It was a little chilly this morning in the rooms," Minnesota sports information director Dan Reisig said via text. "But nothing that Minnesota guys can't handle."

An early-morning breakfast was rescheduled when power finally returned.

"Instead of breakfast, they had to have brunch," Meckl said.

Last year, the Gophers were unable to fly out of Minnesota on the day before the Purdue matchup in early February because of a massive snowstorm in Indiana. Instead, the Gophers arrived on game day. Minnesota ultimately lost 77-74 in triple overtime in that game.

Minnesota tips off with Purdue at 2:15 central time today in its Big Ten opener at Mackey Arena.
