After J.J. McCarthy sustained a hairline fracture on his right hand in the first half of the Vikings’ win over the New York Giants on Dec. 21, the Vikings are playing their seventh game of the season without their starting quarterback. They turn to undrafted rookie Max Brosmer at U.S. Bank Stadium on Thursday against NFC North rival Detroit (8-7), which needs to win out and have the Packers lose out to make the NFL playoffs. Winners of three in a row, the Vikings (7-8) are also without running back Jordan Mason, center Ryan Kelly, tight end T.J. Hockenson and right tackle Brian O’Neill for this game.
