Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority taking applications for opening

Resignation of Duane Benson creates opening on stadium committee

June 26, 2015 at 4:28PM

There's an opening on the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority for someone interested in overseeing construction of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium.

Applications are due by July 17 through the Minnesota Secretary of State's office. www.sos.state.mn.us.

The vacancy was created by the departure of gubernatorial appointee Duane Benson, the panel's treasurer. Benson said he will be gone as of Aug. 1. He said he could no longer work with authority chairwoman Michele Kelm-Helgen.

Gov. Mark Dayton will choose Benson's successor. The position pays a $55 per diem plus expenses. The authority formally meets once a month.

According to the posting, the authority "controls, operates, and has the responsibility over the professional football stadium" being constructed on the Metrodome site.

In addition to Kelm-Helgen, board members include Barbara Butts Williams, John Griffith and Bill McCarthy.

Meetings are held at 1010 S. 7th St. in Minneapolis.
