Senior Clint Poster won the 165-pound division and was chosen the meet's most outstanding wrestler as defending NCAA Division II champion St. Cloud State placed second to Maryville at an NCAA super regional Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Huskies had four individual champions — Poster, Brent Velasquez at 125 pounds, Jay Hildreth at 149 and Austin Goergen at heavyweight — and will send seven wrestlers to the NCAA meet March 11-12 in Sioux Falls.

Perfect softball weekend

The Gophers softball team capped a 5-0 weekend at the Diamond Devil Invitational with a 6-1 victory over Houston in Tempe, Ariz.

Maddie Houlihan hit a three-run homer and Sydney Dwyer a solo shot in a four-run Gophers fifth. Sam Macken and Danielle Parllich added three hits each in support of Sara Groenewegen, who allowed three hits and struck out 12 in six innings.

U edges Campbell

Four Gophers recorded two hits and Eddie Estrada hit a decisive two-run single in the eighth that gave Minnesota a 7-5 baseball victory over host Campbell in the decisive game of a three-game series.

Winning pitcher Tyler Hanson gave up three runs — all on a bases-clearing double in the first — in six innings. Jordan Jess worked the final two innings for the save, allowing one hit.
