Minnesota Scene: Gophers men, women beat Wisconsin in track duals

The Vikings have signed speedy CFL wide receiver Terrell Sinkfield.

The Minnetonka native spent the past two years in the Canadian Football League. He caught 69 passes for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns in his breakout 2015 season. He also rushed for 132 yards on 28 attempts.

Before heading north of the border, the former Northern Iowa wideout had stints with the Dolphins, Packers, Bills and Giants.

The 6-1 wide receiver was timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.19 seconds during the University of Minnesota's pro day in 2013.

Sinkfield was also clocked at 4.30 during Northern Iowa's pro day that year.

The 25-year-old, who signed a reserve/future contract, will compete for a roster spot during spring workouts then, if he hangs around, training camp.

The Vikings showed interest in Eric Rogers, another standout CFL wideout, but he signed with the 49ers after visiting the Vikings and others.

U track teams win

The Gophers men's and women's track and field teams won their indoor dual meets Saturday against Wisconsin at the University Fieldhouse.

The Gophers women swept the running events from 60 meters to 800 meters in a 93-66 victory. Emerald Egwin won the 60 in 7.63 seconds and the 200 in 24.78.

The Gophers men won 88-72, led by Luca Weiland, who won the hurdles (8.07) and long jump (24 feet, 5¾ inches).

Gymnasts top PSU

Five Gophers won individual titles and sophomore Tristan Duran won the all-around championship in Minnesota's first men's gymnastics victory of the season, against No. 6 Penn State at the Sports Pavilion.

The score was 432.75 to 418.50.

The Gophers, swept the top three spots in three disciplines. Zach Liebler led a 1-2-3 Gophers sweep in the floor exercise, with Alex Wittenberg second and Duran third. They also swept the parallel bars, with freshman Justin Karstadt winning with 14.900. Paul Montague Jr. was second and Jack Kramer third. Yaroslav Pochinka won the vault (15.350), followed by Liebler and Wittenberg.
