Outfielder Jordan Kozicky had a two-run triple and an RBI single to lead the Gophers to a 6-3 victory over St. John's (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon in a nonconference baseball game at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Minnesota (18-10) won the three-game series with the Red Storm (13-9) two games to one.

Eli Wilson was 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Gophers, who took a 4-1 lead in the first inning.

Ex-prep coach, AD dies

Former Spring Lake Park and White Bear Lake football coach Bob Jackson died suddenly Saturday at his home in White Bear Lake. He was 64.

Jackson had a 214-141 career record in 35 seasons. He led Spring Lake Park to the Class A state title in 1991. He became the White Bear Lake coach in 1993 and also was the school's athletic director for 12 years.

"He was a great builder of young men," former North Branch coach Nick Nitti said. "He didn't lower the bar for anyone."

After stepping down as the White Bear Lake football coach in 2011, he served as an assistant coach at North Branch for three seasons and Spring Lake Park for one. Last fall, he helped Wayzata football coach Lambert Brown, a former player of his.

Gophers win 12 track titles

The Gophers women's track and field team won six events at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Miss. Karlie Place took first in the pole vault (12 feet, 11½ inches), Nicolle Murphy in the javelin (184-3), Agnes Esser in the discus (184-9) and Rachel Schow in the 400-meter hurdles (59.14). Schow also ran on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

• The men's team won six titles as well at UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival. Dawson LaRance won the 800 (1:49.75), Mason Roomes the long jump (23-6¾), Jonathan Tharaldsen the shot put (59-7), Matthew Baker the 400 hurdles (52.40), Jonathan Webb the 200 (21.28) and Sam Carlson the 1,500 (3:50.46).

• The Lynx will play two WNBA preseason games, the first against the Washington Mystics on May 6 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines and the second vs. the Chicago Sky at 7 p.m. on May 12 at Target Center.

• The Gophers men's golf team finished in a tie for 16th place at The Goodwin in Palo Alto, Calif. They finished with a 15-over 872. Their top golfer was Thomas Longbella, who tied for 42nd with a 3-over 216.

• St. Thomas softball coach John Tschida won his 900th game early last week. His record is 902-172 in 24 seasons at St. Mary's and St. Thomas.
