The Timberwolves officially announced the signing of guard Mo Williams. The news of the move broke earlier this week. The terms of the contract were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a $3.75 million one-year deal.
"We are excited to bring Mo into the fold this season," Wolves coach Flip Saunders said in a statement. "His veteran leadership and excellent three-point shooting ability will be a valuable addition to our team."
Williams, 31, appeared in 74 games for Portland last season, averaging 9.7 points and 4.3 assists in 24.8 minutes per game. He can play either guard spot and has a shooter's mentality.
Williams's best season was with Cleveland in 2008-09, when he averaged 17.8 points — 4.5 points above his career average — and played in the All-Star Game.
The team used a portion of the $5.305 million mid-level exception in the signing, which leaves the Wolves a little more than $1.55 million to use on another move.
Oregon State assistant joins Pitino's staff
Nate Pomeday was hired Wednesday as the director of basketball operations for the Gophers men's basketball team.
Josh Adel, who formerly held the position, will remain on the staff as assistant to the head coach, a new position.
Pomeday most recently was an Oregon State assistant for six years. During that time, the Beavers had five nationally ranked recruiting classes. Pomeday's main duties will involve setting the team's schedule.
