Minnesota Scene: Ex-Cooper star eliminates U from college list

December 28, 2013 at 4:31AM

Former Cooper star Rashad Vaughn has eliminated the Gophers from his final five list of schools. Vaughn, who is playing basketball for Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., as a senior, tweeted the colleges he is still considering on Friday: "Blessed to say my final 5: Kansas, UNLV, Kentucky, Iowa St, North Carolina #NoOrder."

Findlay Prep (15-3), coming off two consecutive defeats, plays Minneapolis DeLaSalle at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

The Islanders are the two-time defending Class 3A state champions but are still missing Reid Travis. The 6-8 senior forward, who signed with Stanford in November, has not played yet this season because of a stress fracture in one of his feet.

The Gophers also tried to recruit Travis.
