Minnesota Scene: Defending champ Jacques Wilson starts fast at MGA Players Championship

Defending champion Jacques Wilson won twice Monday on the first day of the Minnesota Golf Association Players' Championship at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City. The top-seeded Wilson coasted past Ravi Ramalingam, 7 and 6, and edged Trent Sundbom 2 and 1, reaching the round of 16.

Wilson will face three-time MGA Mid-Players' champion Troy Johnson on Tuesday. Also advancing was former Gopher Ben Greve, the two-time defending Minnesota State Open champion.

• Leigh Klasse, Brenda Williams, Lynn Anderson and Betsy Aldrich were among the championship-flight winners at the women's MGA Senior Amateur Match Play championship at Faribault Golf Club.

Explorers rout Saints

League-leading Sioux City touched Saints fill-in starter Ryan Boelter for three quick first-inning runs on the way to an 11-3 victory at CHS Field. Jay Baum drove in four runs for Sioux City.
