Minnesota outdoors events: Snowshoeing, walks along lit trails at Minnesota parks this weekend

Gateway State Trail

5-8 p.m. Friday

Hike a 1-mile trail lit with candle luminaries, warm up around campfires along the way and enjoy some hot cider and other refreshments. Recommended parking is at Wildwood Elementary School, 8698 75th St. N., Stillwater. (651-231-6968, mndnr.gov)

Fort Ridgely State Park

10-11 a.m. Saturday

Take a guided tour to learn about the history of Fort Ridgely State Park and some of the more unusual characteristics. (1-507-384-8890, mndnr.gov)

Silverwood Regional Park

Try kick-sledding, ice fishing and other outdoor activities at this event, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of the passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. Minneopa State Park

5-8 p.m. Saturday

Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking through a forest on candlelit trails, bonfire — this event has it all. (1-507-384-8890, mndnr.gov)

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

Explore ski and snowshoe trails by the light of the moon, with candle luminaries to help guide the way. Ski rental available. A Minnesota Ski Pass is required for all skiers older than 16. Traditional snowshoes will be offered free of charge. (1-320-532-3269, mndnr.gov)

Kingswood Park

1-3 p.m. Sunday

Head to Minnetrista for this program, built for people of all mobility levels. Fishing gear, icehouse for warming, and easily accessible fishing holes provided. Adapted for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities. Cost is $8. All ages welcome. (763-694-7754; threeriversparks.org)
