Mallory Heyer — who entered the transfer portal last month, two weeks before the Gophers women’s basketball team’s season opener — announced on social media Wednesday that she will transfer to Oregon.
Heyer, a three-year starter for the Gophers after a standout prep career at Chaska High School, wrote on the X social media website: “Next chapter!! So grateful and excited to be a duck.”
Heyer will graduate from Minnesota next month with a degree in finance and will join the Oregon program in January. She is expected to pursue a master’s degree in management at Oregon and will have one season of eligibility for the Ducks beginning in the fall of 2026.
On Oct. 22, Heyer wrote on X that she had entered the transfer portal for personal reasons. She wrote: “Thank you Minnesota for the past three years. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent my home state and wear Minnesota across my chest. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way.”
In her three seasons in the Gophers lineup, the 6-foot-1 Heyer started 102 consecutive games. She averaged 9.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game during her Gophers career. Last season, she averaged 8.6 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds to help the Gophers overcome season-ending injuries to Mara Braun and Taylor Woodson to go 25-11 and win the championship of the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament.
The Gophers and Ducks, Big Ten foes, met Feb. 16 in Minneapolis, with Oregon winning 76-70. Heyer had 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Gophers.
The Ducks, who are in their 12th season under coach Kelly Graves, are 3-0 this season and were 20-12 last season, reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament.
