Battle Lake area: The best walleye action appears to be at 13-20 feet during the daylight hours using leeches or nightcrawlers on jigs on lakes such as Ottertail, Big Pine, West Battle and Rush. Anglers also can try shad raps at 5 feet in the evenings. Northerns are at 15-20 feet near weedlines using sucker minnows or spoons on lakes such as Donald, Ottertail or West Battle. Crappies are suspended over weeds at 15-20 feet on West Battle, Stalker or Otterail, using crappie minnows or small jigs.

Big Stone Lake: Anglers are enjoying an improved walleye bite on windy points or near weedlines using slip bobbers and jigs on the south end of the lake. Anglers can also troll for walleyes using a spinner and night crawler or a crankbait. Largemouth bass and northern action also has been productive.

Chisago area: Walleyes are hitting on shiners at 8-14 feet on deeper weedlines on Green Lake, North Center, South Center, Chisago and South Lindstrom. The crappie and sunfish bite has been solid on most area lakes at 10-12 feet and sunfish are at about 4-12 feet.

Ely area: Walleye action has improved with the better weather, with anglers using crankbaits at deeper depths during the daytime or at 6-12 feet using minnows. Northerns have been taking sucker minnows or shiners and spinner baits at about 10 feet. Crappies are hitting on minnows at shallow depths.

Lake of the Woods: Anglers are primarily using jigs and minnows for an active walleye bite at deeper depths on the main basin. On the Rainy River, walleyes are being caught around 4 Mile Bay, at 5-15 feet using a jig and a minnow.

A jig and a shiner has been the best lure to use at 6-12 feet along shoreline breaks on lakes such as Bowstring, Jesse, Round and Big Winnie. The best crappie action is on shallower bays using small crappie minnows or nightcrawlers.
