Leech Lake: Anglers are finding success landing walleyes by using minnows and leeches on windy days north of Two Points in Portage Bay, the Hardwoods and Stoney Point. Crappies and northerns are biting in some of the lake's bays and harbors.

Lake Mille Lacs: The walleye bite has been excellent all across the big lake. Big walleyes have been taken on the mud flats using leeches, and slip bobbers and leeches have been working during evening hours along the shoreline breaks and points. Smallmouths are shallow and active, and northerns are taking minnows along weedlines.

Lake Vermilion: Walleyes have been consistently biting Lindy Rigs and leeches or jigs and minnows around 30 feet during the daytime and at 4 to 6 feet in the evening. Smallmouth bass are hanging around rocks in the shallows, and Canfield Bay has started producing crappies.

Lake Minnetonka area: Walleyes have been taking minnows along the weedlines at 18 feet in Lake Minnetonka and at 8 feet on Lake Independence. Anglers are using crankbaits to land walleyes at night in both lakes on top of the weeds in 3 feet of water. Minnetonka is producing northerns in the weedlines at 12 to 18 feet and crappies in the weeds at 8 to 10 feet.

Lake Winnibigoshish: Walleyes are biting jig and minnow combinations at 8 to 12 feet around points and shoreline breaks. Minnows also have been good for catching walleyes mid-lake at 14 to 20 feet, where northerns and perch also are being found.

Willmar area: The best lakes for walleye action have been Ringo, Long Norway, Green and Lake Elizabeth, using jigs and minnows. Northern action also has been productive on Norway. Panfish are being caught.

Detroit Lakes area: Walleyes are hitting on jigs and minnows on the breaks at 14 to 18 feet or at 7 to 11 feet on the large flats near the edge of breaks or on the outside edge of cabbage weeks. Leeches or nightcrawlers also are working. On some of the clearer, cooler lakes, walleyes are at 18 to 25 feet on long extending points or drop-offs. Northern are active almost everywhere using artificial baits or minnows. Crappies and sunfish are being caught at 3 to 7 feet near weedlines.
