Days after firing Stillwater prison's top official, the Minnesota Department of Corrections has named a successor.

Eddie Miles, a veteran Minnesota prison employee, will take over as warden of Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater effective Nov. 2.

Miles, who holds a degree in sociology from the University of Minnesota, began his career with the department in 1992, originally as an officer at the Lino Lakes prison. He went on to work as a corrections investigator and as program director and associate warden at Stillwater prison. He's since served as warden at Lino Lakes, St. Cloud and most recently Faribault prisons.

Miles replaces Steven Hammer, who was fired this week for violating multiple departmental policies, including those related to sexual harassment and discrimination.
