The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the thaw in the next few weeks will prompt some temporary road and trail closures in state forests.
DNR Forestry Division manager Richard Peterson says the thaw leads to soft soils, which are particularly susceptible to damage. He expects the temporary closures to begin in the next couple of weeks.
He says that, generally, all roads and trails in a state forest are closed at once, but not always. The DNR recommends forest users check road and trail conditions before leaving for their trips.
Road and trail condition information is available at mndnr.gov/trailconditions or by calling the DNR information center at 888-646-6367 Monday through Friday.
