A man sought on a first-degree murder warrant in connection with a fatal stabbing in south Minneapolis was arrested Wednesday while hiding at a relative's home, authorities said.
Quanan Machacek was arrested without incident by the Minneapolis Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, said John Elder, a spokesman for the department.
Machacek, 26, of Minneapolis, had been charged on Friday with the first-degree premeditated murder of Cody Rasche, 25, also of Minneapolis, during an altercation on Sept. 10.
On Wednesday he was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County jail, where he remains in lieu of $2 million bail. That amount was set by a judge earlier, when authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Machacek last week.
They had identified him as a suspect shortly after the killing, based on witness statements. Witnesses told police that Machacek had been trying to pick a fight and had been yanking on Rasche's sweater, trying to pull him to the ground, before allegedly stabbing him repeatedly in the neck area.
Police were called to the 2400 block of Ogema Place, where Rasche lived, shortly after 9:30 p.m. They found him lying in a pool of blood with several people huddled over him, trying to stop the bleeding.
An ambulance took him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died.
