Just when Minneapolis was adjusting to being named best city in the nation for biking by a magazine, along comes an exercise-oriented web site to anoint us No. 8 for running.

Active.com actually gives the ranking to a combined Minneapolis-St. Paul, but all of the pluses it cites are in Minneapolis, excepting the just-concluded marathon shared by the two cities.

The magazine lists as positives the 50 miles of trails (Minneapolis has that alone--what about St. Paul?), indoor running in the Metrodome during the winter and the elite Team Minnesota USA.

Who ranks ahead? New York City, Eugene, Ore., Boston, Boulder, Colo., Chicago, Portland, Ore., and San Francisco. Flagstaff, Ariz., and Washington, D.C. trail the Twin Cities.
