February 17, 2016 at 1:20PM

Minneapolis police are asking for the public's help in identifying a hit-and-run driver who fatally injured a woman in north Minneapolis on Tuesday evening.

Officers were called to 30th and Fremont avenues N. shortly before 5:30 p.m., where 911 callers said a car had hit a woman and fled west on 30th Avenue N.

The car was an older-model, white Ford Crown Victoria with a dark roof. It may have been a taxi at one time. City cameras captured two photos of the car. One image shows the rear driver's side window missing and covered with plastic.

The victim was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where she died a few hours later. The Hennepin County medical examiner's office will release her name and official cause of death.

Police believe the driver may have known the victim.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or text an anonymous tip to CRIMES (274637) and begin the message with TIP674.
