A 12-year-old girl who had been reported missing in Minneapolis has been found safe, according to police.
Victoria Alexandria Jackson, who uses an insulin pump to treat her diabetes, had been reported missing after she was last seen walking from Minnehaha Falls near her home around 8 p.m. Saturday, police said.
It appears Victoria ran away from home and was staying at a friend’s house since Saturday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said during a news conference. During that time, Victoria had enough insulin with her.
O’Hara said the girl walked home Tuesday evening with her friend and one of their parents. As of 8 p.m., it was unclear how much the adults in the friend’s home knew about Victoria’s whereabouts.
“We’re going to continue to investigate the exact circumstances of this,” O’Hara said. “The friend’s house is very close by to the residence. It’s a place that the police had visited multiple times.”
At a press conference Tuesday evening, O’Hara was joined by Mayor Jacob Frey. Both expressed relief that Victoria was found safe and back at home.
“I was very, very scared,” O’Hara said.
Police ramped up their search in recent days out of fear that Victoria’s insulin would run out. An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday afternoon, and countless community members joined multiple law enforcement agencies in the search.
