Minneapolis officer injured in crash with suspect's car

August 27, 2015 at 11:24AM

A suspect fleeing police in a car crashed into a Minneapolis squad in downtown Minneapolis early Thursday. Both the officer and the suspect were injured and taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, said Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder.

An officer attempted to stop the suspect for an equipment and possible narcotics violations in the area of 14th Street and Nicollet Avenue around 4:45 a.m. The suspect led the officer on a slow-speed pursuit, circling the block a few times before striking a second squad that had responded, Elder said.

The officer in the squad and the suspect were the only occupants in the respective vehicles.

Nicollet Avenue between 13th and 15th Streets remained closed at 6:15 a.m. while the vehicles are towed away and debris was cleaned up.
