A Minneapolis man pleaded guilty Monday to hiding in his ex-girlfriend's apartment and raping her at knife point when she returned home.

Alec E. Neal, 31, pleaded guilty in Ramsey County District Court to first-degree criminal sexual conduct, commonly referred to as rape. He had also originally been charged with kidnapping and first-degree burglary for the February attack.

According to the criminal complaint: Neal and the woman, who has publicly identified herself as Sarah Super, dated from May 2014 to early 2015. Super returned home to her St. Paul apartment from a trip on Feb. 18. She spoke to a friend over the phone and then went to sleep. She woke up about 11:30 p.m. to find Neal sitting naked next to her on the bed.

Neal was holding a serrated knife from the kitchen. He referenced the phone conversation Super had with her friend. He ordered Super to remove her clothes and then raped her. Super eventually fled through a closet door that led to a common hallway as Neal slashed at her, cutting her hand.

Neal fled in a car, telling Super by phone that he was heading toward the Gulf of Mexico. With coaching from police, Super asked him to return to the Twin Cities, where he was arrested in Eagan after a 13-mile pursuit.

Police found a roll of duct tape in the hall of Super's building, and additional rolls in Neal's car after his arrest.

Neal is scheduled to be sentenced on July 28.
