A 36-year-old Minneapolis man faces two charges after being accused of hitting and killing a 16-year-old pregnant girl on Sept. 2.

Diana I. Garcia-Alvarado, of Phoenix, died shortly after Howard William Amos allegedly ran into her with his SUV while fleeing police in north Minneapolis. The Hennepin County attorney's office charged him with simple robbery and fleeing a peace officer in a way that resulted in a death.

According to the criminal complaint:

A Minneapolis police officer attempted to pull Amos over for running over a center median and speeding, but instead he sped up, lost control of his SUV and struck Garcia-Alvarado.

Amos then tried to commandeer a car while three women and two children were inside. Several officers were able to get Amos out of the car.
