A 22-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged in a Brooklyn Center traffic crash that killed one passenger and injured another.
Charges against Dejon Culberson were filed Dec. 12 and made public Monday after he was arrested on a warrant. He appeared in court Monday and remains in the Hennepin County jail.
According to the charges:
Police responded to an accident at Lilac Drive and 57th Avenue N. near Hwy. 100 about midnight April 7. They found passenger Taylor Horan, 22, unconscious in the street, and another passenger leaning against a telephone pole.
According to that passenger and a witness, Culberson was the driver when his speeding car passed another car and hit an object on a bridge while crossing Hwy. 100. He lost control of his car and it rolled down an embankment. Culberson ran from the scene, the charges said.
Horan had been thrown from the car and died later from multiple injuries. The other passenger had numerous injuries.
Culberson told police he was in the car at the time of the accident, but wasn't driving, the charges said. He said he ran to his aunt's house after the accident, and later went to a hospital.
A blood test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.186 percent, more than twice the legal limit to drive, the charges said.
