Fifteen people are running for mayor of Minneapolis in the November election, including incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey, who is seeking a third term.
The race will determine the chief executive of City Hall, where the mayor has broad authority over personnel and internal policy, proposes how to spend property tax proceeds, and has the power to veto City Council actions.
Voters will be asked to select three candidates in order of preference as part of Minneapolis’ ranked-choice voting system, and the winner will serve a four-year term.
For this guide, we asked all the candidates questions about public safety, homelessness, collaboration with City Council, the future of downtown and why they’re running for the office.
The responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
