All 13 Minneapolis City Council seats will be on the ballot this year, meaning every voter in the city will have a chance to weigh in on who represents them on the city’s legislative body.
The winners will help determine how the city spends taxpayer money on services like police and potholes and also direct city policy on issues ranging from rent control to homeless encampments.
Voters will select candidates in order of preference as part of Minneapolis’ ranked-choice voting system, and the winners will serve four-year terms.
For this guide, we asked each candidate a series of questions: about public safety, homelessness, the mayor, the relationship between the mayor and council, and why they’re running for office.
The responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
