The third arson to hit a Minneapolis bar and grill this summer has prompted authorities to again search the south side neighborhood for culprits.

The most recent fire struck the Cardinal Bar and Restaurant, 2920 E. 38th St., just before 6 a.m. Saturday, when firefighters arrived to find flames outside an unused doorway to the bar along 38th Street. The fire was limited to the outside of the building and was put out in about five minutes, said Sgt. Sean McKenna of the Minneapolis Police Department's arson squad.

It appears to have been started with papers or clothing stuffed underneath the door, breaking the door and door frame.

The blaze is the third intentionally set fire in as many months at the Cardinal, McKenna said.

On June 14, an awning above the main entrance was set ablaze shortly after 4 a.m. On July 22, a fire was set at a fence in the alley on the west side of the business at 10:30 p.m.

McKenna said the arson squad has no suspects. Leaflets were handed out in the neighborhood, and reward signs were posted after the first fire in June. The arson squad plans to canvass the area again.
