PRINCETON, Minn. — A 25-year-old man is charged with leaving three suspicious packages that caused a panic in Princeton nearly four years ago.
The Mille Lacs County Attorney's office on Wednesday charged Shane Curtis Braaten (BRAH'-tuhn) of Princeton.
Braaten faces three felony counts of terroristic threats, with reckless disregard to risk. He's currently in jail on an unrelated probation violation.
On Sept. 30, 2009, three suspicious packages were found outside the U.S. Post Office in Princeton, Princeton High School and the Princeton Public Utility Plant. All three locations were evacuated and traffic diverted, and district schools were closed for the day. Bomb squads were called in, and all three devices were found to be hoaxes.
Princeton Police Chief Brian Payne says Braaten is the only suspect. Payne says he doesn't know the motive.
